A documentary about the Central Australian Aboriginal Women’s Choir will be screened in Adelaide and Alice Springs cinemas in May.
The Song Keepers tells the remarkable story of the women’s choir and their first tour of Germany, where they sang baroque Lutheran hymns in their own Western Arrarnta and Pitjantjatjara languages.
On this overseas adventure, four generations of women from Lutheran churches at Ntaria (Hermannsburg), Utju (Areyonga) and Kaltukatjara (Docker River) appeared in front of full concert halls and churches.
The documentary premiered at last year’s Melbourne International Film Festival and was directed by award-winning filmmaker Naina Sen.
A trailer for the film can be viewed online.
